Paramporul Yogam step by step guide

Begin Your Practice

Paramporul Yogam is a powerful meditation technique that consists of three main steps: Mathram (Mantra), Nistai (Stillness), and Sitsabai (Higher Awareness Focus). This guided practice will lead you through each step at your own pace.

Before You Begin:

  • Find a quiet, undisturbed place
  • Use a white cloth or mat to sit on
  • Sit with your spine straight in a comfortable posture
  • Preferably face North-South or South-North direction

Important Note: This guide walks you through the process at your own pace. No timers are used, allowing you to progress naturally through each phase. For best results, practice daily in a quiet environment.

Preparation Before Practice

  1. Choose a Suitable Place:
    • Find a quiet, undisturbed area.
    • Use a white cloth or Darbhai (Kusha) mat instead of sitting directly on the floor.
    • Preferably face North-South (or South-North); East-West is less ideal.
  2. Posture & Hand Mudra:
    • Sit in Padmasana (Lotus Pose) or any comfortable posture with a straight spine.
    • Adopt Chin Mudra (touch the index finger to the thumb, with the other fingers extended).
  3. Time for Meditation:
    • Brahma Muhurta (3:20 AM - 4:20 AM) is ideal, but any quiet time works.
  4. Guru Vandanam (Gratitude):
    • Mental bow to the Guru before you begin.
    • Recite: "Om Guruve Saranam, Om Guruve Saranam, Om Guruve Saranam" or a longer Guru mantra.

Step 1: Mathram (Mantra) – 15 Minutes

In Mathram, you silently chant a sacred mantra to awaken inner energy.

How to Practice:

  1. Close your eyes and maintain a straight spine.
  2. Mental chant the mantra "Kanchi Viswanatha Swamigal" without moving your lips or tongue.
  3. Focus your awareness on the forehead center (Ajna Chakra).
  4. Continue chanting for about 15 minutes (or longer if comfortable).
  5. Natural body movements (swaying) may occur; this is normal.
Key Points:
  • Do not set an alarm; let the chanting flow naturally.
  • If you fall asleep, gently resume the practice.
  • The mantra should emanate from the Ajna Chakra.
  • Regular practice gradually awakens Kundalini energy.

Step 2: Nistai (Stillness) – Minimum 10 Minutes

Nistai involves achieving complete stillness and focused awareness after chanting.

How to Practice:

  1. Stop the mantra chanting and sit in silence.
  2. Focus all your attention on the forehead center (Ajna Chakra).
  3. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back to the center.
  4. Sit in stillness and simply observe your thoughts.
  5. Practice for at least 10 minutes—extend as long as you feel comfortable.
Key Points:
  • Longer practice deepens your spiritual progress.
  • Gently redirect wandering thoughts without force.
  • This step builds mental focus and inner calm.

Step 3: Sitsabai (Higher Awareness) – 1 Minute

Sitsabai focuses your awareness on a higher spiritual center by directing attention to the soft palate.

How to Practice:

  1. After Nistai, shift your focus to the soft palate at the back of the mouth.
  2. Use the "Akk" sound technique to locate the exact spot.
  3. Maintain focus on this spot for exactly 1 minute.
  4. If your breath slows or stops, that is normal; do not extend beyond 1 minute.
  5. If you feel discomfort, gently return to your normal state.
Key Points:
  • Strictly limit this step to 1 minute unless you are advanced.
  • This practice can activate deep spiritual states and higher consciousness.
  • A slowing of breath is an indicator of deep meditation.

Final Step: Making a Request (Varam Ketka – Prayer)

  1. After completing all three steps, remain seated and keep your eyes closed.
  2. Join both palms together near your forehead center.
  3. Take a deep breath, hold it, and mentally ask for what you desire (e.g., healing, wealth, spiritual growth).
  4. If no specific request, simply offer gratitude to the Divine.
  5. Exhale slowly and relax after completing your prayer.

After Practice Guidelines

  1. Do NOT shower immediately:
    • Wait at least 1 hour before taking a bath so the energy can settle.
  2. Do NOT eat immediately:
    • Wait at least 1 hour before eating.
  3. If you feel excess energy (such as heat in the body):
    • Drink tender coconut water.
    • Apply sesame oil on your belly and feet before sleep.
    • Take a cold water bath after 1 hour.
  4. Practice Consistently:
    • Engage in daily practice for best results.
    • A session of 15–30 minutes per day is recommended.

Advanced Techniques for Faster Progress

  1. Viral Paarvai (Eyebrow Focus):
    • Maintain awareness on the Ajna Chakra during daily activities such as walking or eating.
    • This practice accelerates spiritual growth.
  2. Light Meditation (Vizhakku Dhyanam):
    • Stare at a lamp flame for 5–10 minutes before meditation.
    • This helps activate the Ajna Chakra more quickly.
